Stolichnaya's roots reach back to Moscow State Wine Warehouse No. 1, opened in 1901 to guarantee a national standard for vodka. The Stolichnaya recipe itself emerged in the late 1930s — built on eight centuries of Russian vodka craft, a measured blend of selected grains that came to define a country's idea of itself.
In 1953, Stolichnaya won the gold medal at the international trade show in Bern. In 1972, it became the first premium vodka imported to the United States, arriving by way of a celebrated trade between PepsiCo and the Soviet state. The same recipe, the same Russian craft, has carried it across the world ever since.
